Proactive Investors – One2One Investor Forum: Why infrastructure debt outperforms private credit

7/07/2026

SIMCo’s Head of Portfolio Management, Steve Cook, talked with Proactive at the One2One Investor forum about the SEQI fund’s investment strategy, explaining how it provides investors with stable income by lending to infrastructure projects and companies across developed markets rather than owning infrastructure assets directly.

Steve outlined why infrastructure debt remains an attractive asset class, highlighting its defensive characteristics, resilience during economic downturns and the structural shortage of capital available for global infrastructure investment. He explained that the fund seeks to deliver a strong and sustainable income stream while maintaining stable net asset values through diversification, limited leverage and full currency hedging.

The discussion covered the fund’s portfolio construction, including its exposure to sectors such as digital infrastructure, renewable energy, conventional power, healthcare, student accommodation and specialist shipping. Steve also explained why the team has become more selective in areas such as data centres, instead focusing on opportunities supporting power infrastructure for growing AI demand.
